Understanding Glassblowers

I used design research methodologies to empathize with glassblowers. I studied and interviewed glassblowers, analyzed interesting findings and drew deeper insights from them.

Project Overview

Problem

Develop the ability to use empathy in the design process by using ethnographic interviews to develop findings and insights about glassblowers.

Process

Conducted ethnographic interviews with glassblowers to understand their underlying needs. Developed findings and crafted insights to better understand this group.

Solution

A set of insights that help others empathize with glassblowers and inform the creation of helpful products in the future.

Skills

User Research

Ethnographic Interviews

Needfinding

Frameworking

We talked to glassblowers.

We conducted 6 ethnographic interviews to get to know these glassblowers on a deep level. In order to get to their core needs, we had to understand them as people first.

We put ourselves in their shoes.

We drew connections & dug below the surface.

With out data, we asked ourselves, “Why do they think this? Why would this be true for them?” We came to 3 core findings, interesting and surprising patterns that occur in all the glassblowers we studied.

We found the deeper why’s.

We created insights and frameworks that explained our findings. We curated a list of needs of glassblowers that drive their actions and behaviors.
